Low Budget Tips for Around Your House Tips 26-30

26. Start an art collection. Every week, 20x200.com releases new original art for $20 each. Buy fast. When they're gone they're gone.

27.  Add artsy knobs to a nightstand to bring it to life.

28. Just a quart of paint can transform your house. A warm color on the front door makes a home seem welcoming.

29. Check children's and teen stores and catalogs for on-sale rugs, lamps, and shades. Adding one bright, shapely, or not-so-serious something is a fun surprise in a livng room or adult bedroom.

30. Rearrange your furniture. It's free, so if you don't like it, simply move it back. Start with the largest piece-usually oriented toward a focal point such as a window or fireplace-and work your way down. If nothing else, angle a sofa, chair. or bed that's hugging a wall.

21. A reversible comforter gives you two looks for the price of one. Flip it when the mood strikes.
22. A writing desk or Parsons table is a refreshing stand-in for a nightstand.
23. Paint crown molding and trim glossy white. The sheen and crisp color make wimpy woodwork, and your room seem grander.
24. Restyle your bed. It is all about layering to create a haven you want to dive into. Start with a skirt – box pleat skirts give a tailored look and a skirt that contrasts with the color of the floor will frame the bed and give it visual weight. Then put on sheets. The flat sheet will be folded back a bit, so consider a surprise color or pattern. Top the bed with a woven blanket, coverlet, or lightweight quilt. A solid color keeps things serene.  Fold the flat sheet over the blanket about 8 to 12 inches. Tuck the sides and bottom of the blanket under the mattress. Lay a folded duvet, comforter or blanket across the food of the bed. This is the place for the most color or pattern, because it’s folded, it won’t overwhelm. Prop sleeping pillows against the headboard or wall. Euro shams will give additional height. Add an accent pillow or two. It acts like a cherry on top.
25. Wall paper is back. Try it as an accent wall behind a bed or above a mantel for a thrifty alternative to papering all the walls.

Low Budget Tips for Around Your House Tips 16-20

16.     If you can afford to change only one thing, let it be the windows. Windows are like your room’s eyes. They look fine natural, but a bit of mascara always makes them pop. Hang curtains at ceiling height, even if your windows don’s extend that far, and choose a bold color or pattern.
17.    Find out when your favorite discount stores stock new items, then shop on those days. Timing is everything at off-price retailers such as T.J. maxx and Marshalls.
18.    Pharmacy style lamps work with any style and in most rooms. Bonus:  No shades or even much space needed.
19.    A teacup or dipping bowl makes a pretty organizer on a desk, dresser, or nightstand. Check your cupboards – even a small ceramic pet-food dish you no longer use can work.
20.    A spool of ribbon works wonders. Embellish a lampshade with it, using fabric glue. Or customize plain curtains by adding rows of ribbon along the top or bottom. Simply attach the ribbons with iron-on webbing.

Low Budget Tips for Around Your House Tips 11-15

11.     If you fall in love with an expensive fabric but can’t afford a major project, just buy one yard and turn it into pillows, table runner or drape it over the back of a chair. Check out the patterns at reprodepot.com.
12.    Get the look of big art with small pieces you have around your home. Gather different size photos, plates, mirrors, and artwork and place above a sofa or bed. Test the look by arranging the collage on the floor.
13.    Use a serving tray to display accessories or to turn an ottoman into a coffee table.
14.    For a different look, try bamboo Roman shades from Target. Cost effective, durable and they look great.
15.    Ungroup matched sets of tables, lamps, etc. and place them in different room. This will keep your room from looking like a furniture store.
